Walton Rods officially launched in March of 2017, but has been working behind the scenes since 2015 to get things up and running. Owner, Brad Smith, founded with the company one simple goal in mind: to make the best rods possible for the right price. His goal was also to sell rods that are handcrafted in America by American hands. They were able to build a fly rod with high quality components along with 68 million modulus graphite blanks, and charge much less than what fishermen are used to paying.
Walton Rods has created a perfect rod with a tapered design, a soft tip, a composite grip, snake guides, a lifetime warranty and many more well thought-out features to provide the best possible experience to customers. We’ve been fortunate enough to get to know Brad over the past year or so, and we’ve been fishing with his rods during that time—we 100% back this brand!
Maybe it’s the fact that Micah was born and raised in Wisconsin, but we are all about the O’Pros Fishing Gear brand and their Dragonfly Rod Holder from southern Wisconsin. O’Pros was founded by three brothers who shared a passion for the outdoors. Since they spend all the time they can chasing the different fish species Wisconsin has to offer, they began coming up with new ways for their gear to perform more efficiently. Better performing gear allowed them to fish more and fumble less, resulting in more fish caught and a more enjoyable time on the water.
Their apparel and gear is designed for peak performance in fishing and outdoor recreation. Their passion for fishing and the outdoors, combined with a background in athletics allows them to provide innovative, high performance, gear and apparel to help you perform like a pro. We have both been using their dragonfly rod holder for the majority of our fly fishing careers.
If you’re looking for a beautiful, custom-made wooden net, look no further than Dead Drift Net Company. Net making is a hobby for owner Joe, whose company is based out of his home in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He does keep a stock of pre-made nets on his site, but he encourages his customers to personally select their combination and configuration of woods so that the final product is unique to each owner. He has five different styles of nets that you can use as a “template” for your own design, ranging from the Driftless (a net sized for walk and wade fishing on inland streams) to the North Woods (which has a slightly larger hoop and longer handle than the Driftless and is intended for use from a float tube, kayak, or canoe).
We are currently rocking a beautiful, custom Driftless net from Dead Drift Nets that is perfect for the small loaded brookie streams that we are often fishing.
